saidia means help.

Saidia means to help, according to the Kamusi Project online kiswahili-english dictionary. My first encounter with the word was probably back in 1988 or so when I lived and went to the International School of Kenya in Nairobi. I was deeply influenced and fascinated by beautiful kiswahili words then, and am still very interested in them now. This is nowhere as apparent as in the name I chose for my own organization back in 1999. Kabissa is derived from the kiswahili word kabisa, meaning complete. I snagged the saidia.org domain name many years ago and have always wanted to put it to good use. Saidia remains a commonly heard word in Nairobi, and I do hope this site lives up to its name and is helpful.

SAIDIASAIDIA is also the name of an organization I remember deeply admiring back then, a clever acronym for Samburu Aid in Africa. Reachable at www.saidiakenya.org, SAIDIA is a community-based organisation working with the people Samburu District in Kenya to provide basic curative and preventive health services and education and to support community-led development initiatives.

While researching online recently, I also found that Saïdia is the name of a mediterranean beach resort in Morocco. Here is a photo of Saidia from Lexicorient.com/morocco:

Drop me a line if you find other meanings for the name. I’m curious.
