Jiminy crickets, I have had a fun week listening to my name being butchered on the radio and reading it every day in the newspapers and online. The latest was this email from Jodi Jacobson from Engender Health that took me over the top:
With thanks to my colleague Curtis Hicks for the idea, we sent my blog on Tobias and the prostitution pledge to the Daily Show and they did two pieces on the story,…..so for a good laugh, go to the Daily Show website and watch the two videos, “Prostitution Gate” and “Beltway UnBuckled”…..
At first I thought it was one of those personalized emails, encouraging me to read “my blog on Tobias and the prostitution pledge”, but then I realized that this simply could not be so and it had to be about this to-bias(ed) guy.
Jodi was indeed blogging about Randall Tobias, not Tobias Eigen, in her Tobias Latest Evidence of Bush Hypocrisy blog posting. This is the part that really burns me - I’m in complete agreement with Jodi:
This might in fact just have been one more “thank-god-its-Friday” “what next?” Washington story if it weren’t for the irony of Tobias’ recent career path, in which he was previously the Global AIDS Coordinator, responsible for overseeing the $15 billion President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and now, as Director of all U.S. Foreign Assistance, ultimately responsible for all foreign assistance including HIV/AIDS, reproductive health and family planning and other areas having to do with sex, reproduction, and women’s rights.
And a footnote: the Jon Stewart video is indeed very amusing - he is remarkably good at identifying the funny bits from news programs. The website is tricky to use, though - the video did not work straight away on Ubuntu, and the site is painfully slow to load on my mac. It is also surpisingly hard to find a direct link to a video - I had to navigate my way around until I found the RSS feeds link (which then only displays the last 10 videos).
