Thanks K2 for the powerful new WordPress template!

If you’ve been here before, you might have noticed that I’ve updated the saidia.org site design. I’ve moved to the K2 Template for its powerful new functionality. I was initially looking for a simple means for adding rotating images to the header like Grandiose Parlor but then found the K2 template which does this and so much more.

K2 Loves you like a kitten..
This picture has nothing to do with K2, but seeing their tag line “K2 loves you like a kitten” made me think of the old viral picture that went around many years ago. I just found it again here – Every time you vote Republican, God kills a kitten. Think of the kittens!

In true open source/WP spirit, these guys have a good time. Here’s the no-baloney low-down on what K2 can do from their about K2 page:

  • User-friendly.
  • Admin-friendly.
  • 100% open source.
  • Semantic XHTML, CSS and JS structure.
  • Supports custom CSS files, the so-called ‘styles’.
  • Smart layout adapts to needs.
  • Fully configureable from options page.
  • Upload and manage custom headers.
  • Sidebar Modules comes bundled (with special K2 modules) and support WordPress Widgets.
  • Live comment posting.
  • Livesearch.
  • Rolling Archives.
  • Dozens of plugins supported out-of-the-box.
  • Fam fam fam icons

And hell, we even threw in a special printer stylehsheet for printing out your blog, just cuz we like you. Not enough? Alright, well we’ve also packaged in a Star Wars themed style for you geeks out there.

Ehm… May the force be with you… Always.

I initially installed the latest public release, but had some problems (notably with the Sidebar Widget which this seems to replace) so went back and downloaded the latest nightly tarball. This is riskier because it’s beta quality, but so far seems to be working better.
