Terrific New York Times video of Last King of Scotland premiere in Uganda

The Last King of Scotland Premieres in Kampala

The New York Times covered the Last King of Scotland Movie Premiere in Uganda on Sunday, February 21, 2007. Watching the online video is a giddy, emotional affair. I am so glad this film was made, and am very much looking forward to watching it myself.

Forest Whitaker did in fact win the Oscar, which is very cool.

    Hi Liz!

YES! I was really glad to hear about the Oscar on the radio this morning. The Oscars is such a “jamboree” but still I was very moved to hear Whitaker’s acceptance speech, which they played on NPR this morning.

Oh: and thanks for pointing out this NYT video in the first place and making sure I wasn’t compeletely clueless about this intersection of my Africa interests and American mainstream events. ;-)

It does seem Africa is a very hot topic in American media these days, and not just in the usual “starving children” sort of way. Having Idi Amin and Ugandan recent history feature so prominently in the American Oscar awards ceremony, of all places, is just amazing. This development is intriguing and I’m sure will have effects worth observing…

    Cheers,

    Tobias
